Outdoor Soccer

Strathearn has offered a community soccer program for children from our community for many years.  We typically host teams for younger aged children and once they get a bit older they join teams from adjacent communities.  Our soccer program relies on a strong group of dedicated volunteers to keep it running - a soccer director, coaches and parent supporters all come together to create a fun program for our kids.  Parents enjoy getting to know other community members as they cheer their kids on from the side-lines.

For those new to our program, here are a few points about how the outdoor season runs:

  • Runs roughly from the first week of May to the last week of June

  • Culminates in the fun, zone-wide Paul Johnston Tournament at the end of June

  • Is based on age groupings (Under 7, 9, 11, 13, etc); boys and girls play together on a mixed team for U7 and are separated into gender specific teams for U9 and up

  • Has two games per week, on either Mon/Wed or Tue/Thur (same nights all season), with practices either scheduled before games (younger ages) or on separate nights (older ages)

  • Has games involving teams from the same and adjacent neighbourhoods for U7 kids. Home games are in the field of Gabrielle Roy school on the southeast side of the school

  • For U9 and up, kids from Strathearn are joined with kids from other communities to create a team (can be in any community in the southeast zone)

  • Relies on parents and other community volunteers for coaches, managers, field painting and coordinating activities.

  • Offers mandatory training for coaches.

  • Is affordable, costing between $145 and $255 per child, and is inclusive

  • Funding programs are available for those in need

  • Is a great way to meet other children and families in our neighbourhood

If more competitive soccer is of interest, the Southeast Storm selects top players from our zone for teams U9 and up.
