Park Adventures in Gallagher Park!

Check out this fun video of some young Strathearners exploring our nearby surrounds, created in collaboration with Edmonton Heritage Council, Kompany Family Theatre, Strathearn Community League, Riverford Productions, the ECAMP program, Edmonton City as Museum Project, and the City of Edmonton.

The Park Adventures project aims to help communities experience their history through the eyes of children via bite-sized videos made freely available online. Watch for more videos coming soon and the launch of a Park Adventures website!

🧡 Some thoughts on Truth and Reconciliation 🧡

For those wanting to have a thoughtful and deliberate July 1st in solidarity with Indigenous people, our Strathearn neighbour Stephanie Harpe has some suggestions (thank you so much for sharing, Stephanie!)

- Wear orange

- Have a moment of silence at 2:15pm

- At your dinner table, show gratitude for the safety of your family and loved ones. Consider the thousands of families devastated by forced relocation, broken treaties and residential schools, and ongoing systemic issues that continue to cause oppression and trauma.

- Please elevate Love and Truth.

Stephanie Harpe is an International Advocate for Murdered or Missing and Exploited Indigenous People's of Canada (MMEI), Residential School Survivor and a proud Indigenous Person who teaches a global audience through her work with the United Nations. She recently appeared on CBC Radioactive to discuss allyship: https://www.cbc.ca/listen/live-radio/1-52-radio-active/clip/15850873-allyship-indigenous-people

FREE Bike Tune Ups

On Sunday June 20, from 1-4 pm at the Strathearn Community League grounds (outdoor) we are pleased to host a FREE Bike Edmonton minor tune ups session.

Two of Bike Edmonton's volunteer mechanics will safety check and inspect your bike, and perform any needed adjustments on a first-come, first-served basis. They'll adjust the headset, wheels, brakes, shifters, saddle, and do their best to solve your bike's mechanical issues. They carry a limited selection of parts like tubes and cables, but if they don't have the parts your bike needs, volunteers will let you know where you can find bike repair services in Edmonton. This event will be in compliance with Covid regulations regarding gathering size, and masking is mandatory.

Thank you to TD’s Park People and Bike Edmonton for making this event possible!

Make your own Bee Hotel!

Spring will soon be blooming -- don't miss your chance to help pollinators in their important work. Kick off Environment Week on May 30 and join our workshop from 2-4pm to create your own bee hotel. Thanks to a TD Parks People grant, we are able to offer material kits ($35 value) for free! This workshop will be led by the knowledgeable volunteers from Edmonton & Area Land Trust (EALT). Your bee hotel is yours to keep, or if you like you can donate it EALT to be used in conservation areas.

This workshop will be held virtually, and we will deliver the materials to registrants in Strathearn, Bonnie Doon, Holyrood or Forest Heights.

Please note that you need access to your own power drill and regular bits to complete this project, but the other materials will be provided.

Capacity is limited to 25 registrants so don't delay! Sign up now at:

Fulton Ravine South Park: Donation Match

Strathearn Community League is Matching Park Donations!

The Fulton Ravine South Park is located along the Fulton Ravine in the heart of residential communities, near local businesses and the Capilano library, and is a unique park that incorporates the existing Capilano skatepark. The skatepark has an innovative design that is enjoyed by people across Southeast Edmonton and is one of the most well used public amenities in the area.

Fulton Park Amenities.jfif

The South East Community League Association (SECLA) has raised over $500,000 for additional park amenities and construction but there is a projected shortfall of $25,000. Construction is slated to begin this spring regardless of the shortfall and amenities may have to be scaled back if funds aren’t available.

Could you please help with the $25,000 shortfall?

Donations of ANY size would be appreciated.

The Strathearn Community League has decided to match all donations up to a total of $1,500 from the community for a total of $3,000 towards this park project in our part of the City! Make your donation do double duty!

Fulton Ravine South Park Project Information:

Fulton Park Plan.jpg

Now more than ever, we understand that neighbourhood parks are essential for health and well-being. SECLA is working with the City to add amenities to the Fulton Ravine South Park, but we need your help to get the project over the finish line!

Currently, a skatepark is the only amenity in the park. There is nowhere to sit, no shade, and no place to site and enjoy or stroll through the park. (SECLA) conducted a formal community survey in 2016 to ask what would people would like to see in the park, and the design plan reflects what was heard from you. Some of the key features include:

  • A paved walking loop - the paved walkway connects all the features of the park and allows accessibility for all ages and abilities, as well as being a fitness feature in itself. The walkway also connects to the north edge of the park and leads to the Capilano library and 101 Avenue beyond.

  • A water fountain/water bottle filling station was also requested in the survey and while it was not financially feasible to place this next to the skatepark, SECLA funded the installation of the water fountain near the entrance to the Capilano library, a mere few steps away.

  • Adult/youth fitness equipment will be included in fitness pods along the walkway. The equipment will be multipurpose pieces that focus on balance and strength.

  • The benches included in the design will have arms to improve accessibility for sitting down and getting up, especially for those who are elderly or with mobility issues. Most of the benches are placed in groupings of two or more to make it easier to chat with your neighbor.

  • Tables for seating and to enjoy picnics in the park.

  • A half-basketball court.

  • Shade elements were strongly requested in the survey, and this is captured in the design by the inclusion of shade trees and a shade structure.

  • The community also asked for native planting and edible plantings and the plan is for future naturalized plantings along the north edge of the park. We will be working with Root for Trees to add native plants and edible plants in this area by community planting projects; however, the planting can only begin after a one to two-year period during which the area is undisturbed. This future planting area will be fenced off once construction begins on the rest of the park.
